Interview: Steve McQueen Band
The homegrown band—named after the iconic actor—plays a heady set of jazz and pop tunes at their regular gigs at Blu Jaz. We spoke to Joshua Wan, keyboardist for the band.
There are few places for a gym that are as obscure as Designed Fitness. It's possibly one of the most secret locations in Chinatown, tucked away on the second floor of a shop-house on Smith Street, with just a poster plastered to the door, then when you walk up the staircase, you could easily miss it. All that effort pays off though once you actually enter the gym. The modern interior is quiet, tidy and surprisingly spacious.

In Atomic Jaya, uber-talented theater veterans Claire Wong and Karen Tan endeavor to act out the roles of all 16 characters. With the play’s satirical take on Malaysian politics and a fictitious storyline about the country’s desire to build an atomic bomb, the performance is entertaining and witty to say the least, especially when you consider the play was written 15 years ago. Since Atomic Jaya is largely based on Malaysia’s heyday of expansion and development, the desire to build a bomb depicts these ambitions.

For an event that required some haggling in the office to form teams of 10 runners, we were certainly impressed by the turnout. The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay took place at the picturesque setting of The Promontory, Marina Bay and we bet the organizers were ecstatic (and relieved) with the reception. More than 170 teams took part in this inaugural event, which saw the office minions decked out in sports attire with plenty of camaraderie all around. Great weather, too.

Having spoken to local rising star Juan Wei Jie recently (read the full interview), we couldn't pass up the chance to go see him and other local hopeful Sherilyn Lim compete at the latest installment of One FC.
