If you’ve already started plotting your calendar for 2020, hold your horses—you’ll want to keep a day (or two) free between Mar 19 and 22. That’s when the legendary Lea Salonga is set to return to Singapore for what will surely be one of the year’s most magical concert experiences. Here’s why you should be there.
 

It’s a chance to be entertained by one of Asia’s cultural icons
 

It’s easy to take for granted the representation that Asian performers get today—we live in a post-Crazy Rich Asians world after all—but we owe a debt of gratitude to trailblazers like Lea Salonga who set the stage way back when.

Born in the Philippines in 1971, Salonga was just a teenager when she originated the role of Kim in Miss Saigon in London’s West End and later on Broadway in New York. The role garnered her Laurence Olivier and Tony awards for Best Actress in a Musical, and the rest, as they say, is history. She would go on to play dozens of other memorable roles on stage and screen, providing the singing voices for two Disney Princesses: Jasmine and Mulan. Someone with star power like her doesn’t come along all that often.
 

It’s a walk down memory lane
 

Given the many prominent roles she’s played over the years, there’s a good chance that a Lea Salonga song has a special place in your memories. Maybe it was “Reflection” from Mulan. Or “A Whole New World”, her duet with Brad Kane in Aladdin. Perhaps it was her version of “On My Own” in the role of Eponine in Les Miserables. You’ll get to hear powerful, pitch-perfect renditions of her Broadway and Disney classics at this show, as she’s backed by a full band and an 11-piece string ensemble. You’ll enjoy all two hours and 15 minutes of it (including the 30-minute intermission to catch your breath).
