11 essential markets in Singapore this March, before the arrival of Bangkok’s ArtBox

We wrote last week about Bangkok’s famous ArtBox market coming to Singapore in April. But actually there are nearly a dozen homegrown markets happening Singapore before then, from organic food-centric ones to true blue vintage. Here are some to check out in March.

GastroBeats (Mar 3-9)

This one is part of the i Light Marina Bay festival this year. You can have fun at the old-school Uncle Ringo carnival, feast on snacks from Skewer Bar, Poke Theory and Starker and soak up performances by Disco Hue, Scarlet Avenue, THELIONCITYBOY and drumming performances by Community Drumming Circle based in Kallang CC. Or if you prefer something quiet, you can join the silent party by Silent Disco.

Superfly: The Prequel (Mar 4)

Stock up on kicks and threads from prominent exhibitors like Sole Superior, Jason Markk, Kiksociety and 14 others, and stay for performances by local rapper THELIONCITYBOY, AOS Collective and others. Snacks will be provided by modern European caterer Big O

OFC Social Market (Mar 4-5)

Spend a few hours at the eighth edition of Open Farm Community’s Social Market and try coconut shakes from Soi Coco, organic homemade granola from SPGranola and a “Garden Grown” cocktail menu with beverages made from OFC’s own garden, among other things. Plus, there will be an open air cinema screening My Dharma, a documentary on yoga traditions, outdoor yoga classes and a hands-on gardening workshop by Edible Garden City.

Camp Kilo x Commoner Creatures Presents Art Club #02 (Mar 5)

Kallang Riverside Park’s coolest restaurant is hosting the second edition of art market Art Club and its lineup of 22 artists and two DJs (Yadin Moha, founder of TEKNOTAKTEKNO and RAH from Darker than Wax). On sale will be pieces from Dawn Ang, who also goes by the name of aeropalmics, motion graphic artist Reza Hasni and some newcomers to the scene like meguuun who will be selling her art for the first time. There will also be food vendors like Selva Foods and SPGranola.

Boutiques Fair (Mar 10-11)

Running concurrently with Singapore Design Week, the always-anticipated Boutiques is back, with a big Spring/Summer throwdown. There will be over 150 labels, covering womenswear, menswear, homeware and furniture. And we are told that an impressive 80 percent of them have socially responsible production practices. Highlights include the gorgeous prints and funky pants of Matter, the ethereally futuristic clutches of Bali’s MNO.logie and jewelry by the likes of Carrie K. and Liz B.

St. Baghdad The Indie Market (Mar 10-12)

In collab with One Kampong Glam, Fri-nally Fete Street Art Market organizes a recurring market right at Baghdad Street with different themes each month. This month, it’s The Indie Market, promising more than 20 stalls selling jewelry, beauty products, artsy knick-knacks and snacks. You can find salted egg chips by Emma, mini ice lollies from Super Pop and Cuppy Cakes and batik collection from ReenTique.

Farmer’s Market at Loewen Gardens (Mar 11)

Loewen Gardens’ Farmers’ Market is back again this month, promising a range of organic wine, vegetables and coffee. Some of the vendors involved are OrganicHimalayaNepal, Salut-Lebanon; a Lebanese condiments makerr, BottlesXO, Perk Coffee and The Meat Club selling beef and lamb from Australia.

Pop Up Market (Mar 11-12)

Local kitchen and cookware store ToTT is having their annual pop-up market at their Dunearn bistro space. Although there is no line-up announced on their page, they promise a range of food, artisanal coffee and homemade crafts. So be there to shop for some functional kitchen items and enjoy the grub.

Katong Square Lifestyle & Vintage Market (Mar 11-12)

This could be your new alternative for retro items since Sungei Road Thieves Market’s announced closure. The self-proclaimed “only true-blue” vintage market is back again this month, with more than 10 booths, including regulars like vintage costume jewelry outfit Shoubijoux, car model and vinyl collectors Karang Unique, and batik craftspeople MoroBatik.

CRIB Summit Market (Mar 12)

The market is part of the women-centered leadership conference CRIB Summit 2017, where all the brands featured are founded by women, selling everything from apparel to skincare. Some brands that will be there are Blithe & Merry, a luxury watch store, Candles of Light, selling candles with fragrant oils and Jo Kilda by Jyoyi Singh, a womenswear designer store.

Katong Square Artisans’ Bazaar (Mar 24-26)

There is another monthly recurring market at Katong Square, happening at the end of every month. So far, there has been no information on the March edition, but they’ve just ended their February bazaar with vendors like Mema Bakery selling a range of cute cookies, TOTETEASE who offers simple A4 tote bags and Ephesus, a Turkish antique jewelry vendor.
