Thai Accent

One of the best things about most of the restaurants in VivoCity is that they’re mostly nicely designed with a distinctly non-shopping center feel, modern furnishings and alfresco seating overlooking the water. Thai Accent is no different—after you’re tired from your shopping, it’s a great place to drop your bags, chill out with friends, have a glass of wine and eat till you’re full. And wine here really is cheap—a bottle of Cape Mentelle Sauvignon. In fact, it’s not just the wine, the food is all reasonably priced and tastes pretty good.

All the usual Thai favorites are here, but particularly notable are the red chicken curry and the eggplant with minced pork. On the weekday night we were here, the restaurant was full, giving it a good, casual vibe. Service is the usual mixed bag—but what does one really expect with those prices? This is by no means a fine dining restaurant: Think a revamped and funkier Thai Express with more adults and fewer students. And for a cheap, cheery and satisfying Thai meal, that’s probably exactly what we want. Definitely worthwhile if you’re in the area and have a hankering for some tom yam.

When the weather is good, eating outside can be a truly enjoyable dining experience. These joints with charming open air areas are just the place to dine on breezy evenings.
