Chef Chan’s Restaurant

Chef Chan made his mark at Pan Pacific’s Hai Tien Lo; this outlet replaces his last restaurant of the same name at Odeon Towers. When we walked into Chef Chan’s the first thing we were surprised to hear is that they had no a la carte and only one set menu (lunch, six courses; dinner, seven courses). While we knew the food was going to be delicious, we felt a little arm twisted. But we ventured in. The décor was beautiful—Oriental and modern—and we found out that the restaurant only had seven tables. The food soon arrived, each course speedier than the last. Black pepper melt-in-your-mouth beef; a huge prawn smothered in garlic; Chef Chan’s famous roast chicken; stir fried vegetables; a juicy fish with spring onions; and mango pudding—all of it was fabulous. Because the food is so good we’re inclined to forgive the restricted menu. However we hope that the restaurant will do more to give its customers a heads up so they don’t get caught out at the door.
