Father Flanagan’s Irish Pub

Having been here often for creamy pints of Kilkenny’s but less often for meals, we were keen to try Father Flanagan’s food again. We went on a Tuesday night and found the pub busy for a weekday. Nothing much has changed about the interior—quaint Irish paraphernalia still fill the walls and the same rustic pub furniture continue to provide a cozy ambiance. Loud pop and rock music blare—too loud for a relaxing conversation but probably right for groups of drinkers. Outdoor tables are quieter. The menu is elaborate for pub grub and comprises a healthy selection of Irish specialties. We ordered shepherd’s pie ($20) and the fillet of beef ($32), and would recommend coming back for the Guinness beef stew ($22), fish and chips ($22), and bangers and mash ($20), all of which looked great. Both our mains were delicious, coming after a very good starter of fried breaded mushrooms ($10) with a garlic mayo dip. And our dessert of apple and rhubarb crumble ($10) is as good as you’re going to find in Singapore. No complaints about the service—the servers are professional and have obviously been trained well. We will happily eat here again and come in a group to take advantage of the big portions, tall pints and boisterous atmosphere.
