From the people behind CruCycle, power-packed boxing in a danceclub setting
Los Angeles fitness studio CruBox returns to its Singaporean roots with a debut studio at Duxton Road. Founded by siblings Valerie, Bebe and Calvin Ding, the homegrown export follows the opening of their first fitness concept, CruCyle—located right downstairs. Like CruCycle, the classes are all about high-intensity workouts paired with dance-track beats, best enjoyed in the company and camaraderie of a group class.
Fitted in minimalist, muted tones, the industrial-chic studio is a stark contrast to the actual boxing room—dark and lined with boxing bags, visible only by a buzzy neon glow from the lighting. Every class is a closed-door event (literally) kept to a maximum of 36, so you can forget about being self-conscious.
All classes at CruBox follow an original in-house programme rooted in foundational boxing techniques, developed with the help of professional boxer Julian Chua. Be prepared to be stretched, both physically and mentally; the authentic boxing techniques (think uppercuts, straight jabs and right hooks) are spliced with intervals of strength training—squats and lunges to keep you limber before you plunge into the next boxing round. Gloves and boxing wraps are provided free-of-charge.
Perfect for beginners, the signature Group Bag Class (50min) combines body shredding, shadow boxing, heavy bag work and core work. If you’re picky about your music, opt for the Themed Class (50min) instead, which pairs the group bag class workout with your choice of themed music—like Hip Hop Wednesdays and 90’s Remixes. For pros who want a little more undivided attention, 1-on-1 and 2-on-1 sessions (60min each) are to come, encompassing mitt work, jump rope, bodyweight exercises and more, as tailored to your needs.
Classes are available at $40 a session, or in packages that go from five classes ($190) to 50 ($1600). You can even combine your package to include CruCycle—five Box and five Cycle sessions are priced at $380 to use at your own time.
Expect to leave no less than fully drenched—but CruBox has thoughtfully provided complimentary use of towels and sleek showers, complete with skincare and facial wash from Skin Inc. Everything considered, you’ll leave the studio feeling like a new person.
