One of a quartet of venues at Clarke Quay’s imposingly big The Riverhouse, Mimi—meaning “secret” in Mandarin—can be said to be the main draw of the multi-concept space managed by the 1-Group (who also runs places like The Summerhouse and The Alkaff Mansion).
It takes up the entire second floor of the massive building, and offers a proper sit-down experience that will please both intrepid and traditional diners. The cuisine is distinctively modern Chinese, with dishes on the menu split by cooking methods—baked, steamed, deep fried, braised etc.—for ease of ordering.
The Garden of Mushrooms ($15) is a must. What looks like a basket of portobello and button shrooms are actually homemade char siew baos and plain fluffy steamed buns resting on a bed of oreo crumbs. For deep-fried munchies to go with your drinks, the Guinness-marinated Snout about Stout pork ribs ($18) and the mala Crispy Beef Jerky ($14) are great for snacking on, while the saucy-good Angus Ham Bao Bao ($16) trio of sliders make for more filling eats without committing to a main.
But if bigger plates are indeed what you’re looking for, you can’t go wrong with the Black Gold Chicken ($18), a plate of tender oven-baked black garlic chicken served on a bed of spiced crispy rice. Don’t miss out on the Unsubtle Truffle Mein ($20) too, a noodle dish served with prawns, asparagus and a side of thick, aromatic black truffle sauce.
Once you had your fill at Mimi, stay within The Riverhouse and head to Yin downstairs for live music and more drinks, or Yang to dance off those calories.
