Never underestimate the comforting power of a cosy coffeehouse, especially one that makes its cakes and pastries in-house.
A 10-minute walk from Beauty World MRT station, FlagWhite whisks you away from the buzz of the Bukit Timah neighbourhood and into the tranquillity of a street lined with bistros and casual diners. Taking pride in serving quality coffee, wholesome food, and housemade desserts, the cafe comes through with everything good in a cafe.
If you’re in need of something bold to jolt you awake, FlagWhite’s signature Mr Brownstone Espresso ($3) blend is a foolproof pick. WIth the fragrance of cacao nibs and berries, nutty notes arise from the freshly brewed cup, but is kept on the sweeter side rather than being overwhelmingly acidic. The White ($5) on the other hand, is a creamy, pulled brew that spreads easy across the tongue. A cup of White is made from single origin beans from Myanmar, giving it its earthy low notes.
Of course, you wouldn’t want to leave without having a taste of the homemade cakes. Sweet Pleasure ($8) is highly recommended for chocolate lovers, a cake of layered mousse and a crunchy hazelnut dacquoise bottom. On the other end of the spectrum, the Almond Cream Lemon Meringue Tart ($6) brings tanginess to the fore, featuring a torched meringue and lemon curd, and almond cream upon a crumbly tart shell.
