There’s something respectfully hardy about Woodlanders.
All through life they’ve battled sympathetic gasps (even from Jurong-ers) with thin-lipped smiles and helpless shrugs, having come to accept that a minimum travel time of an hour is the norm. They’ve weathered the humorless jokes about “being in Malaysia”, and lived day-to-day standing in the train until it reaches their stop (because weirdly, everyone gets off at Woodlands); and yet they’re gracious enough to never outrightly complain.
But now that resilience is paying off. In an unprecedented move, Sephora Singapore has announced the opening of a new outlet come Sep 21 at Causeway Point—also known as the one hangout every Woodlander has spent their formative years in. No more traveling to town for a quick lipstick—ION Orchard was formerly the closest branch—the outlet marks the first Sephora in the North, and will stock the beauty retailer’s full selection of beauty brands: Tarte, Too Faced, Fenty Beauty, the newly released Huda Beauty and more.
Once more, the store will be rewarding its loyal fans in queue on opening day. At 12pm, the first 100 in line will receive a $100 Sephora gift voucher, as will the first 50 Gold Card Members in the VIP Priority queue. Otherwise, pop by from Sep 21-23 for a weekend street party, where the atrium of Causeway Point will be turned into a beauty haven of makeup and skincare booths, testers, and an all-you-can-grab beauty ball pit. It’s bound to be madness.
So rejoice, Woodlanders and Northsiders, for your time has come. It is perhaps a small consolation to the indefinite postponement of the Singapore-KL train, although of course we’d still prefer reaping the marginal savings of makeup-shopping in Malaysia. Baby steps.
