At the top of So Sofitel Singapore—the first Sofitel to arrive on our shores—stands 1927, a cocktail bar that has taken over the space formerly occupied by HI-SO Rooftop Pool & Bar. With the revamp, the theme of the bar has completely changed. While more fun and vibrant before, it now leans towards classy and tropical.
The change comes as Singapore’s bar scene continues its ascension as a global cocktail capital. 1927, named so because the heritage building it inhabits was built that year, draws from its history to offer a menu inspired from that era. It’s interesting to note that Sofitel Singapore City Centre’s bar lounge is also named after a year, 1864, after the founding of the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company.
At 1927, expect a blend of modern mixology, local heritage and tropical touches in the drinks. There’s the Tiki Time Bomb ($22), a refreshing gin-based concoction filled with citrusy notes; the yummy Hashtag Frose ($26) that’s essentially an elegant rose slushie; and a crowd-favorite, the fruity Rum Runner ($22), made using Plantation dark rum and served in a coconut. The bar food menu is made with the drinks in mind, with items like carpaccio, ceviche and brioche on offer. Go for their platters ($40) and get an assortment to pair with your drinks. There are wines ($12/glass), Champagnes and beers ($14 pints) available too, including craft beers by the bottle ($14-15) from the likes of Young Master and Stone & Wood.
The bar’s location in the CBD right beside Lau Pa Sat also makes it an easy option for after-work chill-out sessions. Loungers, cabanas and an infinity pool add comfort and a visual treat to the whole experience.
