Craft beer might have become ubiquitous in Singapore, but in the air, bland lagers have continued to reign supreme. Until now.
On Jun 1, Singapore Airlines began serving Hapi Daze, a Pacific pale ale from Wellington-based craft brewery Garage Project. Available in every cabin class on all Singapore Airlines flights out of New Zealand—departing Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington—Hapi Daze is made with barley and four hop varieties from the Land of the Long White Cloud. “Hapi” is the Maori word for hops, and the brew lives up to its billing; it’s a sessionable beer with bite that adds plenty of flavor to the inflight drinking experience.
Last year, Garage Project created a limited edition beer for the launch of Singapore Airlines’ Singapore-Canberra-Wellington “Capital Express” and we’re hoping that the partnership keeps rolling along. Among Garage Project’s other beers available on the ground are the intriguing Sauvin Nouveau, brewed with sauvignon blanc grape juice, the tropically-inclined Party & Bullshit, and the monumental, 13 percent alcohol by volume, Jameson whiskey barrel-aged strong ale, Rebel County.
