Singapore Design Week is back in March with some exciting new tweaks

Now that we’ve had a little breather from January and the month of everything art, it’s time to dive back in with design in the month of March. Now an annual fixture, the Singapore Design Week (SDW) will be back for its fourth edition. Following the announcement of Design 2025 masterplan, laying out Singapore’s roadmap to becoming a thriving city with practical designs, SDW has over 120 headlining and fringe events for all interests and interest levels.

If design is your bread and butter, don’t miss the Innovation by Design Conference (Mar 7-8) where CEOs, designers and policy makers will rub shoulders, and leaders from major corporations, hip design studios and creative agencies will give talks. If you’re a secretly brilliant introvert tinkering away at your design project, check out the new format of the ever-buzzing SingaPlural which is happening at the F1 Pit building this year, with works-in-progress up for display and discussion and a huge retail space, Pop Up, selling everything from original fabric prints to watercolor prints to beautiful ceramics. And speaking of design-y shopping, another huge highlight of SDW is the International Furniture Fair Singapore (Mar 9-12), which will have aisles and aisles of gawk-worthy furniture and homeware.

And what’s a festival in Singapore without some themed, guided walks? Design Trails 2017 (Mar 11-12) takes you on exploratory walks to places like co-working space Collison 8, the Airbnb office, Journey East furniture store, the fancy and interactive Singapore Chinese Culture Centre and other places. And if you want to scamper around town some more, there’s also the SDW edition of Art Day Out! at Gillman Barracks (Mar 11), featuring commissioned pieces by international designers, a guided tour of their recently opened Lock Route which covers public art pieces on the grounds, open artist studios and more.

Singapore Design Week runs from Mar 3-12. You can find out more here
