The T Project, a shelter and organization that empowers and supports Singapore’s transgender community, begun raising funds in August last year when they were in danger of shutting down. But through two communal dinners prepared by the likes of the now famous 78-year-old transgender woman Rose and the former transgender model Amy Tashiana who whipped up Tamil and Malay dishes, and donations from well-wishers, they’ve raised $141,850. But that doesn’t mean they can stop.
They might have moved into a shophouse in the east of Singapore but there’s still a need help with overheads like paying rent and utility bills, and maintaining a proper security system for the residents. For their third edition of The Giving Table, Artistry is getting the help of Tinoq Russell Goh, a prominent makeup artist in the industry who’ll be cooking a flavorful repertoire of Peranakan dishes like nyonya chap chye, ayam limau purut, ikan chilli garam and more, on Jan 16. Tinoq didn’t have a great childhood and often turned to cooking to tide through the tough times. Now, in his free time, he cooks for his loved ones to express his appreciation for them (he’s also available for hire as a private dining chef), so what you’re getting is essentially a meal with a lot of love put into it.
Tickets are $80 a pop on Peatix ($50 for students and community workers). All proceeds will go towards helping the T Project with the bills.
