Cafe/restaurant renditions of the popular Chinese pulled pork bao have been seen at places like 40 Hands and Neon Pigeon, but lately, two more restaurants cooking up these banging buns have emerged on our radar.
Full of Luck Club is a new casual Cantonese-fusion restaurant dishing out five variations of Asian-inspired burgers such as the salted egg yolk prawn bao, braised pork bao, smoked duck bao, kung pao fried chicken bao and the white pepper minced pork patty bao. It’s slated to open at 243 Holland Ave come mid-April and their full menu is not yet released, so check out their Instagram for updates.
Can’t wait? Then make your way down to Bao Makers, a painfully hip cafe in Jalan Besar with—you guessed it—six different baos on their menu. Besides serving up choices like braised pork belly ($4.80), bulgogi ($5.30), salted egg shrimp ($5.80) and chili crab ($5.80), there are also Japanese-Western mains like buta yaki spaghetti ($12.90) for a heartier meal.
