This weekend in Singapore: brunch with drag queens, Brazilian dance parties and laser tag

It’s an especially party-heavy weekend in Singapore, what with the Carnival spirit coming over a bit late from Brazil, but for quiet, arty types, there’s Huat Art Market by the Local People, and a cool brunch at The Projector, a vinyl fair and more.

CONCERT
After 15 years of making music, Welsh hardcore band Funeral for a Friend is calling it quits, but not before a series of concerts, including one in Singapore.

THEATER
Nur Sabrina Binte Dzulkifli and Euginia Tan present their plays about the complexities of friendship in We Used To Be Close

ART
The Local People and Chinatown Business Association’s Huat Art Market opens today, with 40 art, retail and food vendors. The fair starts at Pagoda Street.

EAT
Kensington Park Road’s La Petite Boutique is having an Apero Wine and Cheese event with French chacuterie and red wine.

PARTIES
New Irish bar The Drunken Poet sports bar is opening at infamous Orchard Towers with a party.

Kampong Glam’s Southern American joint The Beast is turning two with keg stands, beer pong, grilled pork belly and corndogs. 

Blu Jaz Cafe is hosting yet another edition of Tropic Temple, with carnival-type party with music from the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa. The DJ Funk Bast*rd from the Darker Than Wax collective is also playing.

WELLNESS
WeBarre, the city’s first ever barre studio is having an opening party with free classes, workout apparel from Kitted and acai berry bowls from Selva Foods.

MARKET
The Analog Assembly is having another vinyl trade fair. Sean Lam, the lead vocalist from Hanging up the Moon, will perform, too.

COMEDY
Fullerton Hotel is hosting a First Class Comedy show, with comedians from the US and the UK. Catch local comedian Samuel See (he has performed at the Magner’s International Comedy Festival) at this one.

PARTIES
It’s a far cry from Rio’s Carnival, but Gingapura at Bali Lane certainly draws a lot of inspiration from it. Expect Brazilians, samba and marchinhas in the streets, caipirinhas and more.

Inspired by Nevada’s Burning Man, Lion City Burn is an all-night party will involve fire and circus performances, 3D projections, installations and an outdoor cinema.

There’s a New Orleans and Mardi Gras-themed party today with jazzy tunes by the Sidewalk Swingers and the New String Brass Band, also at Blujaz.

Tanjong Beach Club is having an all-Argentine party, White Magic Sunset, with DJ Adrian Giordano spinning ’80s funk and electro-boogie, along with duo Silver City. 

FILM 
Outdoor films at The Gardens by the Bay continue with You are the Apple of My Eye, a bittersweet Taiwanese film about first love.
