Previously located in a sleepy Novena neighborhood, Retro Colony has relocated to Tiong Bahru. The airy showroom still offers simple and retro Scandivian-inspired furnishings sourced from Sweden and Japan.
Pieces are reproductions of original designs from the 1960s, ranging from walnut and vinyl leather armchairs ($637) to oak cupboards ($2,738) and oak bureaux ($1,824). We especially love their Karimoku range, which is designed with replaceable parts so you can use a piece for years without needing a total overhaul. There are also fun and quirky knick-knacks for sale like retro-inspired Fire-King mugs, bowls and leather coasters, all of which are made in Japan.
It can be a little pricey, but the showroom offers great alternatives to generic pieces, especially if you like the Scandinavian look but can’t do the mass-produced IKEA stuff.
