If you haven’t heard about the pop-up concept NÓNG by Edible Gardens (whick rock have you been hiding under?), do yourself a favor and visit the space this Sunday, March 23, on the rooftop carpark (sixth floor) of People’s Park Complex for their big farewell party Hit the Roof.
Happening from 4 to 10pm, expect to see stalls by big names like Morsels, The Cajun Kings, The Ice Cream & Cookie Co., Bettr Barista and 28 HongKong Street. Food and drink prices range from $5 to $10 on the average and 10 percent of the proceeds will go to Pathlight School, where a program is being initiated to train graduates to become a new generation of urban farmers—a process that will hopefully prep them for future job oppportunities. Another highlight of the event includes a live music performance by hiphop act Matteblacc.
The party may mark the end of NÓNG, but not the end of Edible Gardens’ urban farming efforts and initiatives. So what’s next after the pop-up’s over and done with?
“NÓNG will be winding down its operations gradually, but we hope we can turn it into a traveling pop-up in empty spaces all around Singapore so we can spread the message [of urban farming] and make it even more accessible to all. As for the space on the carpark in People’s Park Complex, we’ll start putting more emphasis on building the farm up. Everyone can look forward to hopefully the world’s largest rooftop urban farm where we will grow great organic produce and make them available to the public,” says Bjorn Low, co-founder of Edible Gardens and the brains behind NÓNG.
