Attend a wide range of vino-related events this month, from sessions on regional specialties to paired dinners by premium wine houses.
To start, there’s the 30 Years of Innovation: Wine Tasting at Praelum on March 7. Expect offerings from Saltram Winery chief winemaker Peter Lehmann (including his lauded Stonewell Shiraz) at this session guided by Matthew Davidson.
Next, there’s the TLN Friday Wine-down on March 8. The session is a great start your weekend and features samples of wines recommended by The Local Nose (TLN). Taste eight different vinos accompanied by nibbles.
Then, look out for the Cool Wines Seminar on March 9. This one-day seminar is guided by experts Annette Scarfe MW, Andreas Wickhoff MW, Joel Payne, and Ying Hsien Tan. Participants compare top cool climate wines from Austria and Germany at blind tastings throughout the day.
Another notable event is the Shaw+Smith Vinter Dinner on March 12 at the Jewel Box. Guests will taste six top wines from Australian producer Shaw+Smith Vineyards including the Shaw+Smith Shiraz 2007, Shaw+Smith Shiraz 2010, Shaw+Smith Chardonnay 2010 and the Shaw+Smith M3 Chardonnay 2012. Accompanying the wines is a four-course menu and commentary by the vineyard owner (and Master of Wine) Michael Hill Smith.
Also, check out the Marques de Caceres Wine Dinner at Skyve on March 13 featuring Marques de Caceres wines paired with a five-course dinner guided by the brand’s ambassador Xavier Vincente.
The next day (March 14), there’s the Château le Puy Vintage Wine Dinner at Guy Savoy, where guests will taste six courses of Guy Savoy’s creations paired with Château le Puy’s selection of vintage wines from the years 1978, 1988, 1998 and 2008, presented by the vineyard’s winemaker Pascal Amoreau.
Following that, The Wine Apprentice – Perfect Pairings class is happening on March 15. The interactive lesson at Italian restaurant Il Cielo aims to help guests find the ideal pairings for classic recipes.
For some wines that pair well with Asian fare, Napa Valley Wine Dinner at Yantra on March 21 is just the ticket. Enjoy a (vegetarian or non-vegetarian) five-course menu paired with selection of wines from Trinchero, Joel Gott and Napa Cellars Vineyards, with guest speaker Steven Sarle (international sales director at Trinchero Family Estates).
Then, executive chef Marco Guccio presents a five-course Under the Tuscan Sun Wine Dinner accompanied by Tuscan vinos. Expect dishes like oven baked mullet paired with Riecine Rose 2011, and pumpkin dumplings in port sauce paired with Poggio Antico Madre 2006.
As the month comes to a close, don’t miss the Wine Tasting Dinner at db Bistro Moderne on March 27 with Burgundy producer Henri Boillot. The wine expert will introduce some of his favorite wines from Maison Henri Boillot, accompanied by a four-course menu by executive chef Jonathan Kinsella.
Lastly, for those who want to plan ahead, there’s also The Wine Apprentice – Wines of Bordeaux on March 29. At the workshop, expect to learn about the distinctive terroir, grapes and wine-making styles of Bordeaux.
