Joo Chiat’s recently welcomed Immigrants, a laid-back gastropub that serves up mean Peranakan and Eurasian bites alongside a respectable list of whiskeys and craft beers.
Helmed by chef/partner Damian D’Silva (you might remember him from Soul Kitchen and Big D’s Grill), expect grub like his signature sambal buah keluak fried rice ($20) and potent Squid Bombs ($14).
For those who prefer less spicy dishes, give the ngoh hiang ($14) and Eurasian pork cutlets ($10), D’Silva’s mom’s take on bagadale, a go.
If you’re looking for something to wash it all down with, there are tipples including Barney’s Flats Oatmeal Stout ($12) and Trappistes Rocheforte 6 ($12) for the beer fans, as well as a selection of single malts like Hakushu 12 Year Old (from $14/glass) and Glenmorangie 18 Years Old (from $18/glass).
