O Batignolles, a French wine bar opened by couple Antoine Rouland and Marie-Charlotte Ley, is now open at Gemmill Lane.
The new Singapore wine bar offers affordable by-the-glass options (from $7), which might include a mineral-tasting 2008 Chablis and an intense 2011 Cote du Rhone. There are also bottles (from $37) categorized according to flavor: fresh, fruity and light, balanced and elegant or intense and rich.
To eat, there are nibbles like the cold cut and cheese plate ($26), a goat cheese and mint pie ($13) and salads including the La Salade D’Anne ($15) a filling lunch-sized bowlful of couscous, roasted vegetables and balsamic dressing.
The ambience is distinctly Parisian with marble-top tables and rattan chairs outside (for people watching) and a rich dark wood and red color scheme indoors. The owners have also decorated the place with personal accents like black-and-white photographs, vintage signs and historic French newspapers cut-outs.
