The buzz: Fans of rooftop bars take note. After a short hiatus, Loof has emerged with a facelift and new local focused concept in May 2012.
The décor: The Loof crew has made some serious effort to jazz up the space, sporting a chic yet laidback look. We’re really digging fresh features like the super cute addition, The Mama Shop, which sells a collection of old school knickknacks (from $0.50). Anyone else up for a drunken game of five stones ($2.50)?
The food: Singaporean faves with a twist have resulted in elevated pub grub items such as Wings Lah, sambal tumis chicken wings ($18), and a ridiculously addictive chili crab dip with fried mantou ($16). Need some serious stomach-padding goods? Then order up some Lamb Rack Lollipops ($28) or a Ramly burger ($18).
The drinks: There’s a handsome list of cocktails to choose from, as well as beers ($13-16) from countries in the region like Thailand, Laos and Korea. Sure, they’ve kept a handful of standbys including The Gummiberry ($18), but it’s the Asian-inspired newbies (all $17) that have our vote. Vodka-based concoctions like 254 are spiked with fresh chili and soy sauce, but our top pick’s definitely the Singapore Sour—an unusual but delish marriage of sour, salty and sweet.
The music: Chill tunes made up of a pretty diverse blend of ‘80s & ‘90s hits, old school bands and even some disco.
The crowd: Hip creative types and well-dressed execs after a post-work tipple rule the deck on weeknights, while weekends see a more eclectic mix.
Why you’ll be back: Great location and view aside, this cool spot has mastered the dangerous combo of good drinks and good food. Plus, happy hour’s on from 5-8pm, Mondays through Fridays.
Don’t miss: Chili crab dip. It’s one of I-S Magazine’s 50 things to eat in Singapore before you die (2012).
