Buzz: Praelum is Latin for wine press (and if you knew that—respect). Just under a month old, wine lover Elizabeth Lin’s Duxton debut, Praelum Wine Bistro, is firmly focused on vino.
Décor: The understated interiors in this modest shophouse space—ruled by a black-and-white color scheme—keep the vibe laidback, but what we especially appreciate are the charming touches like metal birdcage lights and artworks from Lin’s personal collection.
Drinks: The main draw is the frequently rotating variety of wines available by the glass. Dispensed by two Enomatic machines, there are three different sizes to choose from (25ml, 75ml or 150ml). You’re given a charge card that you insert into the machine, then grab a glass and just press a button; intoxication on tap.
Music: Poppy stuff like Estelle’s ‘American Boy’ and chilled out lounge tracks.
Crowd: At the moment, it’s primarily execs who work in the area, with some spillover from Sabio, right next door.
Why we’ll be back: It’s a good spot for after work drinks or to catch up with friends, particularly if you’re around the Tanjong Pagar area. Plus, we love the casual, help yourself concept.
