Tucked away in Esplanade Mall, My Humble House has become a perennial favourite on the fine dining scene and has even been ranked as the World’s 94th Best Restaurant. As such, expectations ran high when we popped by.
This is a place where pants are compulsory and flip-fops a definite no-no. The dark simple hues, muted lighting and chic, if somewhat austere furniture, create a setting that’s elegantly intimate. This sophistication is evident in the menu with strange dish names like “Dancing With the Wind.” We had the scrumptious fried green tea dumplings and their duo humble prawns with wasabi mayo and mango salsa which was truly world-class, whilst the seafood soup in coconut was simple with just enough coconut.
The mains were, however, slightly disappointing—the seafood silver bait basket and house special champagne pork ribs were solid but not outstanding. The meal however ended on a high note with the Open Dessert —a spread of desserts with the highlight being the cream of sweet pumpkin with coconut ice cream.
For the diner looking for some haute cuisine that will not cost a bomb, My Humble House ranks well.
