Foodies in northeast Singapore now have a new makan haunt in the recently unveiled Anchorvale Village Hawker Centre, conveniently located next to Farmway LRT station.

The spacious hawker centre, perched on the second floor of the Anchorvale Village mixed-use development, boasts 650 seats and 36 food stalls in all.

These include branches of well-known hawker joints like Pin Wei Chee Cheong Fun, a Michelin Selected hawker stall best known for its smooth Hong Kong-style chee cheong fun stuffed with savoury fillings like prawn and char siew; Original Simon Road Hokkien Mee, a longstanding specialist of the stir-fried noodle dish that’s been knocking around since the 1960s; and Uncle Louis Famous Chicken Rice, whose eponymous Hilton hotel alum boasts more than 30 years of experience preparing the stall’s signature dish.

Other honourable mentions include Eng Kee Chicken Wings, a hawker brand that’s brought its famously crispy chicken wings from Commonwealth Drive to the rest of the island, and China Whampoa Handmade Noodle, a Whampoa Hawker Centre stalwart that’s long attracted snaking queues for its hearty ban mian.

Not to be outdone, younger hawkers will also be making their presence felt among the heritage brands. There’s Ah Tan Wings, purveyor of har cheong gai both funky and deliciously crisp, as well as Jin Kimchi, which began as an online kimchi retailer but has since evolved into a thriving Korean nosh hawker chain.

For dessert, turn to Munchi Delights, which sells both nostalgic and newfangled versions of Singaporean staple min jiang kueh, or Thai Khanom Banana for a bag or three of addictive fried bananas, yam chips and sweet potato balls.

Diners looking for more economical options will also be in luck, as Anchorvale Village Hawker Centre promises piping hot cups of kopi o and teh at $1 each, and breakfast sets from as low as $2.20.

Budget set meals at the hawker centre’s mixed rice stalls are priced at $1.50 (for ComCare cardholders) and $2.70 for other concessionary cardholders (NTUC Union Members, Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation and CHAS Blue Card Holders).

Anchorvale Village Hawker Centre is at 339 Anchorvale Rd, Level 2, Singapore 540339.
