153 awards, 31 categories, and the people who make our lives a little more beautiful

What a difference a space makes.

Beyond good food and warm service, the best restaurants provide unforgettable experiences as they engage with our senses through immersive environments.

To recognise the best interior design projects and talents in Asia Pacific, 153 awards were given out across 31 categories at the 8th Design Excellence Awards 2021 by the Interior Design Confederation Singapore (IDCS).

The awards honoured both built projects by industry professionals and academic projects by design students.

Singapore-based firm Hot Design Folks won the only Gold awarded this year for Best F&B Design, for their work on Set of Six, creating a lush speakeasy concept that focuses on gastronomic experiences with unique craft cocktails and elevated finger food.

Laank snagged the highly-coveted ID Firm of the Year award for a second consecutive year, with Founder and Creative Director Cherin Tan also winning highest honours as Interior Designer of the Year 2021. For their projects in the F&B sector, Laank bagged the Bronze award for Rebel Rebel Wine Bar, and was highly commended for Waa Cow! Change Alley Flagship.

Also particularly outstanding is the winner of this year’s Best Student Award, Sheryka Umaya from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). She edged out her peers as the sole recipient of a Gold award across all student categories this year.
