The annual one-day celebration of Singapore’s underground culture, the Aliwal Urban Art Festival, will be returning on Jan 19 for its sixth year running.
Set to happen once again along Aliwal Street and inside Aliwal Arts Centre, expect the full-day affair to be an eclectic showcase of works inspired by international street culture, from graffiti and music to skateboarders showing off their prowess and b-boys and flygirls breaking it down.
Urban art collective RSCLS will be back to present a live painting and installation piece, as well as conducting several graffiti tours of Kampong Glam throughout the day. From 3pm, SGMuso will be putting on stage indie bands that span across genres of R&B to math-rock and funk, while from 4pm, get your food and retail fix sorted as InvasionSG takes over the Aliwal Street Carpark with a lively marketplace.
Something new this year is a drone flying workshop and competition. Public tryouts of a drone obstacle course will be available at various times, while between 5pm-6pm, sit back and watch as professional drone racers pit against each other in a competition of speed and finesse.
Be sure to stay till late for the closing party (it starts at 10pm), as DJs, hip hop artists and rappers fill the air with infectious sounds sure to get you throwing some shapes.
Aliwal Urban Art Festival 2019 happens on Jan 19 at Aliwal Street and Aliwal Arts Centre.
