Arts in Your Neighbourhood is heading to Pasir Ris with new experiences and performances

The Pasir Ris Heritage Trail may have been spotlighting the far-flung eastside neighbourhood, but there’s still more to explore at Pasir Ris.

Locals will get to do exactly that when the National Arts Council (NAC) takes the popular Arts in Your Neighbourhood (AYN) initiative to the charming residential town from Mar 11-28. Presented both physically and digitally, AYN will feature a total of 10 arts programmes including visual arts installations, music performances and multi-disciplinary experiences co-created with a diverse group of artists, arts organisations and community partners.

So look forward to these key highlights happening all across the former kampung village. First, take a behind-the-scenes look at ways in which artists and makers have been coping with the pandemic through a puppetry film named The Puppeteer Prepares by The Finger Players.

Then, experience Pasir Ris like never before thanks to Kotak Foto (Photo Box) that invites all into the magical world of pinhole photography. Hop into the back of a 14-foot truck which has been converted into a pinhole camera box and just immerse yourself in the kaleidoscopic sights and sounds of the neighbourhood before visiting the pop-up interactive installations at Pasir Ris Park to create your own pinhole images.

Meanwhile, Podscape will be returning for its second season in Pasir Ris. Visit the striking yellow mobile recording booth nestled amidst the lush greenery of Pasir Ris Park to record your stories about the neighbourhood.

This season, the pop-up will feature an exciting mix of immersive storytelling soundscapes made from objects found in Pasir Ris, foley creations, and a “new normal” musical experience in a public park. Locals can even explore the neighbourhood on the go through the Podscape podcast on Spotify too.

Finally, don’t forget to head down to White Sands Shopping Mall to witness a captivating light projection display on its building facade, set to original soundscape compositions. Experience the sights and sounds of Pasir Ris as this piece offers sound recordings taken during an evening walk along Sungei Api Api. The project display also features works by artists Marc Gabriel Loh, OnlyHuan, Anise, and Claude Glass.

We’ve only really scratched the surface on what AYN Pasir Ris has to offer. To know more about the new and exciting experiences, you’ll have to explore the town for yourself.
