This Apr 14-25, get excited to embark on a cinematic journey across Latin America as the first-ever Caribbean Cinema Showcase will be happening in Singapore. Taking place at Our Tampines Hub’s state-of-the-art Festive Arts Theatre, the showcase aims to share the arts and culture of the Caribbean to the local public.
With a total of nine films in the line-up, the film festival will open with Esteban in an invite-only event to be graced by Minister for Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli.
Nonetheless, locals can still look forward to catching plenty of other shows, starting with Papita, Mani, Toston (Potato, Peanut, Plantain), a rom-com that broke box office records in Venezuela as the most watched movie in cinema history.
Then there’s Enamorándome de Abril or Romancing April, another rom-com that follows an unlikely love story of a romance novelist who uses a female pseudonym and a pragmatic independent journalist who writes her column as a man.
Fans of feel-good dramas should also check out Central Park (Parque Central), a flick about four couples and their struggles in life; while young families can catch animated film Ana and Bruno that teaches the value of friendship.
So whether you’re interested in learning more about the arts and cultural aspect of Latin America, or just looking for an escape from reality, the Caribbean Cinema Showcase is not to be missed.
