Check out cool sculptures at this travelling art exhibition that heads to libraries across Singapore

Before the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) closed in April last year for redevelopment works, the beloved arts locale announced that it would offer a mini mobile museum as its replacement travelling art exhibition, bringing bits of SAM’s National Collection to selected neighbourhoods in Singapore.

Now, get ready to see the SAM Mini Mobile Museum again, taking its latest commission closer to locals from now till Mar 2021.

Named The Dream from the Other Side, the collection by Singaporean artist Melissa Tan will head to Woodlands Regional Library, Jurong Regional Library and Tampines Regional Library, exploring the continued evolution of Singapore’s topography. So look forward to seeing cool, abstract sculptures as the series installations map Singapore’s transformation over time.

In fact, over the course of its showing at the selected libraries, the installation will evolve to represent how the three different areas have been transformed through destruction and development. The surfacing or disappearing of new towns and water bodies (plus other features) have caused these regions to alter in shape and size, and these changes will be reflected in each sculpture as the exhibition progresses.

The work also invites audiences to observe these modifications as reflections of the constructive changes around us, as well as to discuss the future of Singapore’s terrain.

There’s not much else to be said about the pieces as these sculptures are really meant to be seen in person, so just head down to Woodlands Regional Library to check it out from now till Dec 13. But in case you miss it, just know you’ll always be able to check it out at Jurong and Tampines subsequently.

The Dream from the Other Side runs from now till Mar 21 at Woodlands Regional Library, Jurong Regional Library and Tampines Regional Library. More information available here.
