The Esplanade’s annual dance fiesta Da:ns Festival is a key event that needs little introduction. Now in its 16th edition, the performing arts centre’s beloved showcase remains a champion of the dance community, with a special focus on local talent this year.

Taking place from Oct 8-17, the festival’s theme is all about discovering new ways to dance—inviting audiences and artists to turn their attention towards unique perspectives on the body and physical touch.

Reflecting and celebrating how far and diverse our local dance scene has come, simply check out many new works in the segment Go Local, in which leading local contemporary dance companies offer new pieces that represent their identity and artistic directions for years to come.

You’ll want to catch In Good Company—an Esplanade commission which goes into dance practices and expressions. Companies performing alongside one another include T.H.E Dance Company, Frontier Danceland and RAW Moves.

Singapore’s leading dance company Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) will also be staging works; in fact, theirs will be a triple bill of neo-classical ballet and contemporary numbers set against the stunning backdrop of the Marina Bay.

You’ll also want to mark your calendars for Full Out! ScRach vs MarcS, an electrifying showcase of street dance at Esplanade Outdoor Theatre. Not only will you get to witness an epic showdown, you’ll also get to be the judge of the battle royale as the award-winning dance couple settles their differences with experimental choreography and more.

But that’s not all. Expect to find dance films curated by Cinemovement, cool Zoom productions, technique workshops and even entertaining TikTok challenges at Da:ns Festival 2021. Just put your best foot forward and uncover new ways to groove thanks to everyone’s favourite dance extravaganza.
