Esplanade’s Indian festival of arts returns this November with vibrant live performances and more

Not many may remember, but Kalaa Utsavam – Indian Festival of Arts was one of Esplanade’s first few cultural festivals and programmes. Today, the annual fiesta is in its 20th year of championing Indian arts, and its 2021 edition will prove to be a unique and dynamic cultural celebration when November rolls around.

Taking place from Nov 19-28 at Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Kalaa Utsavam 2021 will offer a myriad of live performances, sure to thrill audiences across Singapore.

For starters, locals will get to check out newly produced works by bharatanatyam dance company Bharathaa Arts, fusion band Brahmastra, and Indian contemporary dance company Chowk Productions.

Patrons will also be able to head into the centre for live performances by vedic metal band Rudra, classical music ensemble SIFAS Alumni; not to mention thematic music showcases by Singapore Indian Orchestra and Choir and Temple of Fine Arts.

And for the very first time, Esplanade has also curated a line-up of short films by international and local filmmakers. Through this, audiences will be able to feel connected to the rich diversity of Indian culture and the diaspora’s stories.
