Mosi Cafe
It purports to be the first Moroccan café in town to introduce shisha. We’re not too sure about that, but this is still one of the most authentic eating places here.
Sleepy Sam’s
Never mind that they don’t actually welcome locals to stay here (this is a dorm after all), but you can still come here to have a drink and make new friends with the many visiting backpackers. At least the conversation’s interesting.
Livin Greens
Still one of the best eco-friendly options in town. Go for its staple brown rice set and mango sushi for mains, while for dessert, try the avocado pudding and glutten-free blueberry cake. Living Greens has relocated to Rangoon Road.

Confused Cooks

Herbs & Spices
A great new addition to the Singapore scene for a decent cup of coffee. Add to that a full kitchen and some top pasta dishes, and you have a winning formula.
Hajah Maimunah
No-frills, affordable nasi padang that are packing ‘em in. Highlights include the Sundanese BBQ chicken and tauhu telor.
Islamic Restaurant
Around for almost 50 years, the trademark nasi biryani is still the star dish here.
Leong Kee (Klang) Bah Kut Teh
Bah kut teh fans come here for its soy-based soup base, which is reminiscent of the famous Klang (KL) version. Its less peppery rendition is way tastier though.
Gelato Di Posta Storico
Fantastic homemade gelatos especially the salted caramel ($3.70 per scoop, $5.80 for mixed flavor), while the double chocolate packs a punch. Great for people watching
