The celebration of the historic Bavarian beer festival, Oktoberfest, has long been a highly anticipated annual fixture at Singapore’s premier casual German restaurant chain Brotzeit.
But this year’s edition of the festivities promises to be bigger than ever before, as the brand will be marking its 18th birthday by pulling out all the stops to throw an Oktoberfest bash for the ages.
Key to this year’s uber Oktoberfest – running from Sep 3 to Oct 27 across Brotzeit’s four outlets in VivoCity, Katong, Raffles City and Westgate – is an entertainment lineup both electrifyingly traditional and intriguingly unconventional.
We’re talking old-school performances by the Swiss Alpine Lions, a veteran folk ensemble, mixed in with novel acts powered by international phenoms like the Austrian DJ Juergen Kranzinger (aka DJ JFK) and young yodeller Thomas Reitsamer (aka Toni Deluxe). The latter two artistes will be making an appearance at Brotzeit’s recently renovated flagship in VivoCity for its “Oktoberfest Party Days” bash from Sep 5 to 7 (from 8pm), and on Sep 8 (from 12pm). Well-loved international spinners Chloe and Gunnar will continue to play here every Thursday night for the rest of Oktoberfest’s duration.
A long, beery brunch at VivoCity on Sunday, Sep 8 marks the end of the rousing celebration. Authentic Bavarian nosh like roasted pork knuckle, crispy pork belly, snail sausages, pretzels and more will be served, while children’s entertainers will keep kids happily occupied
For the duration of the Oktoberfest season (or until the imported 9,000 litres are consumed), all four Brotzeit restaurants will offer a free flow of Erdinger Oktoberfest beer, draught beers, selected house wines and soft drinks, for $88++ per person for three hours and $68++ per person for two hours.
Honoured traditions like the ceremonial tapping of the first beer keg and the crowd-favourite mug-holding endurance competition will of course make an appearance, as will child entertainers to keep the kiddos busy while the adults work through the spread on hand.
Naturally, the festivities won’t be limited to Brotzeit’s VivoCity branch on that first weekend. The outlets at Westgate and Katong will host their own parties on Sep 19 (with a Bavarian-style oompah band and Singapore-based DJ Maverick) and Sep 22 (featuring live performances by Alphorn maestro Marcel Baerenfaller) respectively.
The festivities continue with the Oktoberfest Weisswurst Brunch on Sep 29 (with Swiss Alpine Lions and DJ Maverick) at the main VivoCity outlet before concluding with a final winding down party on Oct 26. A closing brunch the next day at Brotzeit Katong welcomes back Marcel Baerenfaller with Alphorn performances and more Oktoberfest music for a last hurrah.
For impromptu and smaller Oktoberfest gatherings, selected dishes from Brotzeit’s Oktoberfest menu will be available for self-collection or home delivery throughout the season.
