Dragonfly bar buzzes into Singapore with Art Nouveau decor and bespoke cocktails

, Dragonfly bar buzzes into Singapore with Art Nouveau decor and bespoke cocktails

Singapore’s effervescent cocktail scene is abuzz with yet another entrant – the newly unveiled outpost of Dragonfly, a progressive bar flying all the way from the streets of Hong Kong to Orchard.

To be precise, you’ll find Dragonfly Singapore at Vibe Hotel Singapore Orchard on Mount Elizabeth Road. You can’t miss it – just look for the bar decked out in gorgeous, grandiose decor harkening back to the art nouveau movement of the late 1800s.

We’re talking ornate patterns on the walls leading up to hand-blown, wing-patterned lamps inspired by 19th-century artist Louis Comfort Tiffany – and of course, who can forget the bar centrepiece that is a stunning larger-than-life dragonfly hewn from stained glass.

Architectural theatrics aside, Dragonfly also promises to distinguish itself with a bespoke cocktail programme anchored on the flairs of bar manager Morgan Raelin Barron, an alum of establishments as Washington DC’s Allegory and BarMini, as well as Singapore’s very own award-winning watering holes like Jigger & Pony and 28 Hongkong Street.

Here, she presents a menu centred around Cause and Effect, which explores classic cocktails set against increasingly progressive original creations, each more bold and spirit-forward than the last.

Cocktails that pique our fancy include the vodka-based Bite the Blossom, which turns Hanami-infused vodka, Oloroso sherry, grapefruit and rhubarb into an easy drinker of a highball; the Veil of Fondness, wielding malty genever, Cocchi Rosa, tomato, watermelon and lemon for a nuanced, sweetish libation; and the Everything Gets Butter, a reimagination of the classic Old Fashioned featuring brown butter-washed bourbon, demerara sugar, chocolate and Angostura bitters.

Dragonfly’s ambience lends itself well to a night of easy drinking and unbridled fun in equal measure, which is why visitors can expect a curated roster of live music and DJ nights catering to all tastes and sensibilities. Just the thing to have while you relax with friends and keep the drinks a-flowing.
