Spicy Crawfish

The crawfish craze shows no signs of slowing down. Now fans of the crustacean can get their fix at Xia Mi Hao Liao, a one-stop place for all your crawfish cravings.

Xia Mi Hao Liao, a name that translates to a playful pun meaning “what’s the good food?” in Hokkien dialect, serves up fresh seafood (including fresh, live crawfish and hairy crab) that’s flown in weekly from China. The 86-seater restaurant might be located in Little India but the interior is said to reflect seafood restaurants in Hubei – casual and laidback, where using your hands is de rigueur in enjoying shellfish.

The crawfish and hairy crab are cooked in five ways – Signature 10 Spiced, Steamed, Spicy, Minced Garlic or Bi Feng Tang. Signature 10 Spiced Crawfish/Hairy Crab features a sauce blend of 10 spices including Chinese cinnamon, star anise, Wurfbainia vera, bay leaf and licorice root. It’s a punchy and spicy indulgence that borrows the best numbing heat from mala but adds extra layers of fragrances from the other herbs and spices. The Bi Feng Tang Crawfish/Hairy Crab sees shellfish stir-fried with breadcrumbs and minced garlic on top of a medley of spices.
