Ging Sun Ho King of Bun, a brand specialising in Shanghainese pan-fried pork soup buns (also known as sheng jian bao), has just ventured out from its home country of Hong Kong with a dine-in outlet right here in Singapore.
The brand’s international debut will be made on Sep 4 at Tampines Mall, proving that the East side really is the best side – well, at least when it comes to sampling specialty grub from countries far and wide (don’t worry Westies, your turn will come).
Naturally, the Shanghainese staple takes pride of place in the outlet’s offerings, with a price tag of $6.50 for three piping hot, crispy-bottomed Pan-Fried Pork Soup Buns brimming with punchy meat broth and dotted with black and white sesame seeds.
These dumplings draw from a recipe first taught to Ging Sun Ho’s founder Oscar Siu, who traded up his singing career for slinging buns when he visited Shanghai and fell in love with authentic local sheng jian bao.
He spent three years learning the ropes from a Shanghainese master before returning to Hong Kong and starting his brand. There are now 13 outlets in the singer’s home country with plans to open additional locations in the upcoming months.
But if pan-fried buns are not enough to sate your appetite, you can also find other Shanghainese grub like the Signature Pork Chop with Veg Rice (chopped bok choy cooked together with rice) for $14.20, or a heartwarming, nutty bowl of Ging Sun Ho Dan Dan Noodles ($11.20).
In celebration of the eatery’s opening, the first 20 customers who spend a minimum of $20 in a single receipt from Sep 4 to 13 will receive a pair of limited-edition Gin Sun Ho-branded socks to keep their toes as warm as their stomachs.
Ging Sun Ho King of Bun is at Tampines Mall, #B1-K17/18, 4 Tampines Central 5, Singapore 529510.
