It’s durians galore at Paradox Singapore Merchant Court with a feast and fiesta fit for the King of Fruits

, It’s durians galore at Paradox Singapore Merchant Court with a feast and fiesta fit for the King of Fruits

Get ready to kick off the durian season in style at Paradox Singapore Merchant Court as it commemorates the arrival of the King of Fruits with not one, but two showstopping feasts.

The Durian Fiesta sees the transformation of the hotel’s Ellenborough Market Café – an all-day dining destination dedicated to soulful Peranakan dishes along the banks of the Singapore River – into a culinary haven for locavore treats inflected with the aromatic kiss of durian.

From now to Aug 31, expect the restaurant’s weekend dinner buffet spreads to take on a delectable new face with lashings of the love-it-or-hate-it fruit.

We’re talking fried rice heady with the dual flavours of wok hei and durian; an unctuous Hokkaido pumpkin cream soup undercut with silky durian; and addictively unconventional choux pastries stuffed with durian and hazelnut.

Don’t forget the classic all-star that is durian pengat, a traditional (and sinful) dessert enjoyed by Malays and Peranakans alike for its decadent, mousse-like consistency and winning combination of palm sugar, coconut milk and durian.

If all that durian isn’t enough to sate your cravings for the thorny fruit, the exclusive Durian Fruit Bazaar that Paradox Singapore Merchant Court will be holding every Thursday from Jul 18 to Aug 8 (as well as on National Day, Aug 9) surely will.

After all, you’ll get to indulge in unlimited – yes, we said unlimited – servings of fresh Mao Shan Wang, D24 and Black Thorn durian (among other varietals), plus Ellenborough Market Café’s usual slew of international and local fare at its alfresco live station overlooking the Singapore River. And if that still isn’t enough durian for you, we don’t know what is.

The Durian Fiesta runs now to Aug 31, Friday to Sunday, 6.30pm to 10pm. It is priced at $98 per adult and $42 per child. The Durian Fruit Bazaar runs from Jul 18 to Aug 8 every Thursday, and on Aug 9, 6.30pm to 10pm. It is priced at $138 per adult and $50 per child.
