Not a joke: LG Han from 1-Michelin-starred Labyrinth opens Har Har Chicken! dedicated to the shrimp paste staple

, Not a joke: LG Han from 1-Michelin-starred Labyrinth opens Har Har Chicken! dedicated to the shrimp paste staple

Har cheong gai (har cheong means prawn or shrimp paste, gai means chicken in Cantonese) is a beloved staple found in practically all zi char stores in Singapore. Marinated in fermented prawn paste and deep-fried, the crispy savoury dish is an umami bomb that’s crispy on the outside and succulent inside.

Now, the fried chicken is given the spotlight it deserves at Har Har Chicken!, brought to you by four Singaporean foodies and avid har cheong gai lovers: LG Han from one-Michelin-starred Labyrinth, social media personality Lennard Yeong, restauranteur Tay Jianli and investment professional Bevin Desker.

Han is known for his  “New Singaporean” dining cuisine at Labyrinth, often serving local flavours and childhood memories in reimagined dishes. So it goes without saying that expectations are high at Har Har Chicken!.

Har Har Wings
Har Har Wings

No longer just a side dish, the har cheong gai has been recreated as a hero product in the form of standalone wings, burgers, rice boxes and more. There are the signature Har Har Wings ($3.20 per piece, $18 for six) and Har Har Pops ($4.80) for on-the-go bites.

Har-burger

The Har-burger ($7.30) sandwiches a whole golden har cheong cutlet with tomato and lettuce, while the Saver boxe feature one wing and a choice of fries or chicken rice, accompanied by chicken rice chilli. For those with bigger appetites, try the Har-ty Double Wing Box which has two wings or the Har-ty Boneless Thigh Box which has a whole boneless chicken har cheong thigh cutlet.

Will it be all smiles and laughter at Har Har Chicken!? Check it out when it opens at  Junction 8 on Jul 5.
