The annual list of The World’s 50 Best Bars, sponsored by Perrier, has been unveiled, and three Singapore bars have made it to the 2023 ranking.
Jigger & Pony is at No.14, continuing its successful run on the Singapore cocktail scene even after 11 years (it is currently second place on Asia’s 50 Best Bars list).
Sago House ranks at No.32 and Atlas re-enters the list at No.48.
The awards was unveiled as part of a live ceremony held at Pasir Panjang Power Station on Oct 17, the first time in its history that the ceremony was held in Asia. It was a celebration of the excellence of the international drinks sector and paying tribute to the visionary bartenders, enterprising bar owners and trailblazing brands.
The 2023 list features bars from 28 cities with 11 new entries across Bangkok, Berlin, Dubai, London, Melbourne, New Orleans, Paris, Rome, Seoul, Singapore and Stockholm.
Clinching the top spot is Sips in Barcelona. Located in the heart of Barcelona’s L’Antiga Esquerra de l’Eixample district, Sips (No.3 in 2022, and The Best Bar in Europe 2023) was lauded for combining elegant design with cutting-edge technique to create an unfussy and playful “drinkery house”.
Special award winners were also announced. Singapore’s Night Hawk was the winner of the inaugural Bareksten Best Bar Design Award. Founded by renowned Singapore bartender Peter Chua in May 2022, the speakeasy’s enigmatic interiors have been meticulously designed to offer an intimate, immersive experience that combines retro and futuristic elements.
The list is compiled by votes from The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, which comprises 680 drinks experts including renowned bartenders, drinks writers and cocktail specialists from around the world.
