Who’s afraid of the big, bad werewolf? The entire village of Daggerhorn, whose inhabitants walk around in wide-eyed fear for most of the movie, that’s who. And the expression on the Red Riding Hood’s (Amanda Seyfried) face in the promo posters pretty much sums up the range of her expressions for much of the movie. She’s mopey because she’s in love with broody bad boy Peter (Shiloh Fernandez), but has been betrothed to wealthy goody-two-shoes Henry (Max Irons), and the big bad werewolf killed her sister and a whole bunch of other people.

While the turnout for Slash in Big Night Out’s Day 2 was stronger and even more diverse (we had frail geriatrics in the audience) than that for Stone Temple Pilots in Day 1, we have a message for some in the seated areas: If you want to come to a rock concert, especially a Slash one, do not get front row seats and expect to stay seated to an unblocked view because everyone else around you will expect you to stand, and go crazy with the rest of them, as close up front as possible. This is a rock concert, not an opera.

It was a very long wait for Scott Weiland and co. after a strong performance from support act I Am Giant. About 45 minutes in, comedian Sugar Sammy (the opening act for Days 1 and 2) had to step up to diffuse the tension, only to have the audience boo and chant, “What the f**k!” Some even pelted the poor man with little white objects, whatever they were. When STP finally came on stage, they launched into “Crackerman” after a cursory, “Thank you for waiting,” from Scott.

Who would have thought a cover artist could be this good, and one with incredible showmanship to boot. “Cry Me a River” opened the show with the shadow play aplomb of a conductor and his orchestra; the curtains part and on came Bublé, flanked by his big jazz band. It was a rousing opener that concluded with a dazzling pyrotechnics display, marking the first song of a perfect set with clear sound and clear vocals, the instruments working really well together, neither drowning out the other. And boy does he love sliding around the stage.
