Work by acclaimed directors Francesca Archibugi, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani and the legendary Dino Risi are just some highlights.
From Apr 21-30, Golden Village cinemas, the National Museum of Singapore and The Projector will be screening critically-acclaimed contemporary and classic Italian films at the 14th edition of the Italian Film Festival.
Highlights include popular Italian titles such as An Italian Name by award-winning director Francesca Archibugi, about what happens when a weathly Roman couple announces the arrival of a baby to a dinner party; Wondrous Boccaccio, which tells the tale of love, fate and hope through 10 young men and women who have escaped the black plague in 14th-century Florence and My Mother by Nanni Moretti. Screened at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, it shows the comedic clash between a short-tempered film director (who is an on-screen reflection of Moretti) and her ailing mother.
The event is also screening three renowned Italian classics: I Mostri (The Monsters) by Dino Risi, a satirical portrayal of Italian society in the '60s; neo-realism masterpiece Rocco and his Brothers about how a family from Southern Italy tries to integrate into the industrial-driven North and 8 & a Half by Federico Fellini, a 1963 black-and-white comedy-drama comprising six feature films and two mini segments.
Tickets for screenings at Golden Village are on sale from Apr 7 at their website. For shows at the National Museum of Singapore, head here. For more information, check out the event's website or Facebook page.
