From sumptuous poon choy to Japanese-style yu sheng

An iconic five-star hotel overlooking Marina Bay, the Pan Pacific Singapore is home to many of the city’s top restaurants. A number of them will be pulling out all the stops to usher in the Year of the Dog, making Pan Pacific Singapore the perfect place to celebrate with your friends and family. Here are five dining experiences you can look forward to this Chinese New Year.

Hai Tien Lo

 

Specializing in contemporary Cantonese cuisine, award-winning restaurant Hai Tien Lo will be the focal point of festivities at the Pan Pacific Singapore. They’re serving up set menus for two, four, six and eight (or more) people with prices starting at $138.80 per person. Highlights from the menus include steamed sea perch fillet with preserved meat, red chili and garlic; and their famous barbecued crispy whole suckling pig. A vegetarian set menu is available for $128.80 per person.

In addition to set menus, Hai Tien Lo has six yu sheng options for you to choose from with prices starting from just $38. The “Wealth and Health” yu sheng with imperial swiftlet’s nest, Boston lobster and baby abalone (from $128) is particularly mouth-watering. Each yu sheng variety can be served in an adorable, Instagram-worthy dog shape — simply place your order three days in advance. The restaurant will also offer poon choy “treasure pots” (from $328) with ingredients like abalone, pork knuckle and roast duck. Poon choy pots and yu sheng platters are available for takeaway as well with free delivery to one location for orders of $800 or more. On top of all that, Hai Tien Lo will host a dim sum buffet on weekends ($99 per adult with a minimum of four diners required).

Edge

 

At theatrical buffet establishment Edge, meanwhile, you have a whole host of buffet options to consider. There’s Chinese New Year lunch, champagne brunch, dinner, seafood dinner and surf and turf dinner (from $62). And as for the spread, you can look forward to seafood on ice (including Alaskan king crab and freshly shucked oysters), DIY yu sheng, whole roasted suckling pig, Chinese sausage and crispy bak kwa pizza, baked sambal baby lobster and much more.

Chinese New Year buffet options are available on selected dated from Feb 15 to Mar 2.

Keyaki

 

To put a Japanese spin on things, head to Keyaki, nestled on the fourth floor of the Pan Pacific Singapore. Keyaki’s wafu yu sheng (from $88) features tuna, salmon, yellowtail and tobiko and is topped off with gold and silver flakes and homemade ponzu sauce. Bigger groups (eight to ten people) can consider Keyaki’s luxurious premium yu sheng which includes sea urchin and lobster ($308). Three set menus spanning six, seven and eight courses will also be served with wagyu beef, deep-fried snow crab and chilled Inaniwa udon as the standout dishes.

Keyaki’s yu sheng is available from Feb 9 to Mar 2 while their set menus are available from Feb 15 to 17.

Pacific Ballroom

 

Pan Pacific Singapore’s recently revamped Pacific Ballroom will be the setting for the hotel’s largest Chinese New Year celebration as it hosts a reunion dinner on Feb 15. The Chinese New Year themed buffet ($98) comes with a free flow of soft drinks or Chinese tea. There will be live performances throughout the night from the likes of SBT Trio, a dynamic band known for their ethnic fusion music, and a fengshui talk for 2018 by Paul Kek from Alchemy Consultancy Services. Pacific Marketplace

 

Planning to celebrate Chinese New Year at home? You can still add a bit of Pan Pacific Singapore finesse to the occasion with takeaway goodies from gourmet grocery and cafe Pacific Marketplace. Stop by to pick up treats like homemade kumquat sugee cake, savory Cantonese sponge cake with salted egg, rainbow kueh lapis, crunchy homemade caramel walnuts with sesame seeds and Chinese New Year koi fish nian gao. Free delivery to one location is available for orders of $800 or more. Chinese New Year items at Pacific Marketplace are available from now until Mar 2.
