Musical fans are set for a Wicked time next year. The Broadway blockbuster will return to Sands Theatre, Marina Bay Sands, in March 2025. It first premiered in the same theatre in 2011 to rave reviews.
The musical, based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, is a story of identity, acceptance, and the nature of good versus evil. Audiences will embark on an unforgettable journey into the Emerald City and learn of the events that happened long before Dorothy dropped in the land of Oz, when two young women – one born with emerald-green skin and the other bubbly, blonde, ambitious and exceptionally popular – meet. They become rivals, then friends, until the world decides to call one “good” and the other one “wicked.”
Watch dazzling performances and hear powerful music written by Stephen Schwartz, like “Defying Gravity” and “For Good”. The fourth longest running show in Broadway history, Wicked remains one of the most successful and popular musicals in the world since its premiere over 20 years ago. It has won over 100 major awards including the Grammy Award, Olivier Award, six Helpmann Awards, three Tony Awards and six Drama Desk Awards.
The show is presented by Base Entertainment Asia, together with producers John Frost for Crossroads Live Australia, Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone.
If you can’t wait till 2025, there will be a movie musical starring Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and Jonathan Bailey, out in theatres on Nov 22.
