The inimitable Dim Sum Dollies will be returning to the Capitol Theatre once again this December with History of Singapore: Sixty Sexy Years, a musical adventure that isn’t afraid to poke fun at the scandalous bits of our nation’s recent history.
As always, the production centres around the iconic trio of Selena Tan (of Crazy Rich Asians fame), Pam Oei (Faghag, Tartuffe and Hotel) and Jo Tan (Tiong Bahru Social Club and Tartuffe) as they revisit the past decade’s most watershed moments – “one pandemic, two percent GST hike, three Presidents, 4G transition and five guilty corruption pleas – just in time for our Diamond Jubilee.
The Dollies will be joined by their long-time ally and “irreplaceable chopstick” Hossan Leong, along with a live band and six “sexy low mai guys” (which are probably referring to supporting cast members).
And as expected from a production of Dream Academy’s calibre, viewers can also look forward to top-notch production quality in every detail. We’re talking extravagant costumes, multimedia visual effects, props and dynamic lighting – the works.
History of Singapore: Sixty Sexy Years comes two years after the Dollies’ post-pandemic return in Still Steam which ended a seven-year hiatus.
However, that doesn’t mean it’ll be full steam ahead for the trio’s return, as they’ve already hinted that Sixty Sexy Years might be their final full-scale production – a fitting swansong for a national musical, theatre and cabaret icon.
History of Singapore: Sixty Sexy Years runs from Dec 12 to 21, Monday to Friday (8pm), and Saturday (3pm and 8pm). Ticket prices start from $68. Get them here.
