Pinocchio comes to life with Wild Rice’s new musical adaptation

Come Nov 17, Wild Rice will be presenting Pinocchio, a brand-new Singaporean musical adaptation of one of the most recognised stories in children’s literature. Ask anyone about the tale, and a bunch of iconic scenes instantly come to mind – the puppet’s lengthening nose, the giant whale’s belly, or the donkeys perhaps?

That said, the literary classic promises a spectacular production, brought to life by playwright Thomas Lim, lyricist Joel Tan, and composer Julian Wong. Proudly directed by Pam Oei, Wild Rice’s Pinocchio features a cast of pantomime veterans – Mae Elliessa as Pinocchio, Ebi Shankara as Geppetto, Siti Khalijah Zainal as G-Hopper, as well as the adorable First Stage Kids – making a welcome return to the stage after the easing of pandemic restrictions.

So, enter the world of Pinocchio as he proves himself to be brave, kind, and true in order to become a real boy.

It’s a challenge the little puppet is determined to overcome, until he is led astray by a pair of con artists, and swept up in a misadventure that takes him from the promise of the circus to the deepest depths of the fathomless sea.

Pinocchio will run from Nov 17 to Dec 24 at The Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre @ Wild Rice. Grab your tickets from Wild Rice’s website or on SISTIC now.
