It’s a story that draws on historical events, archaeological discoveries, traditional nomadic dances, and the music of the ancient Hun culture from 3,000 years ago.

Written in 1998 by acclaimed Mongolian writer Lkhagvasuren Bavuu, and revived in April 2022 at the Mongolian State Academic Theatre of Drama, The Mongol Khan explores the evolution of Mongolian culture through a gripping tale of brutal succession that threatens the Empire’s essence. The narrative, filled with tragic elements of jealousy, mistaken identity, and power struggles, are all brought to life through a haunting original score, dramatic storytelling, dance and puppetry.
