Apple TV+:
La Maison

High fashion meets high stakes in French with English subtitles in the 10-part drama La Maison. Beginning with two episodes, it unravels a tale of deceit, ego battles, and power struggles within a powerful company as it tries to reinvent itself after a video implicates its star designer, Vincent LeDu (Lambert Wilson). Amidst the storm, Perle Foster (Amira Casar), LeDu’s former muse who has stayed in his shadow for far too long, rallies around Paloma Castel (Zita Hanrot), a visionary young stylist, to re-establish Maison LeDu as the face of Parisian fashion. Wolfs

The comedic crime caper just earned its stars George Clooney and Brad Pitt a five-minute ovation at the 2024 Venice Film Festival – a stamp of approval from critics and fans. The two former co-stars and real-life buddies join forces reluctantly as professional fixers to clean up a high-profile crime, only to find that it spirals out of control in unexpected ways in Wolfs. Written, directed, and executive produced by Jon Watts, the Apple Studios film was produced in partnership with Clooney’s Smokehouse Pictures and Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. It also stars Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, Poorna Jagannathan, Richard Kind, and Zlatko Buric. Premieres Sep 27

Seoul Busters

Every year, the Violent Crime Team 2 of the Songwon Homicide Division consistently ranks among the worst performers in the entire Korean police force. The management is counting on the new captain (Kim Dong-wook) – a shining star with brilliant reasoning, good looks, excellent athleticism, and a sense of humour – to transform the last-ranked team into the best in this laugh-out-loud comedy series. Agatha All Along

Before Agatha All Along, there was WandaVision in which Wanda Maximoff stripped Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) of her powers and made her live as Agnes, the annoying neighbour and town nuisance. Patti LuPone’s Lilia Calderu, a 450-year-old Sicilian witch, and Aubrey Plaza’s Green Witch Rio Vidal help her regain her powers as Agatha. Look out for original songs by Frozen composers Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, who also created the WandaVision song that gave Agatha All Along its title. Premieres Sep 18

Five Nights At Freddy’s

This 2023 American horror film is based on the video game series of the same name created by Scott Cawthon and stars Josh Hutcherson as a troubled security guard who starts a job at an abandoned pizzeria where he discovers its animatronic mascots are  possessed by the souls of murdered children. Elizabeth Lail, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Matthew Lillard co-star in the film. The Penguin

Based on the DC Comics character, the eight-episode series The Penguin continues the epic crime saga Matt Reeves began with The Batman. It explores the rise to power of Oswald “Oz” Cobb, also known as Penguin, as he attempts to take over Gotham City’s criminal underworld in the aftermath of the film’s events. Colin Farrell reprises his role from The Batman, alongside Cristin Milioti and Rhenzy Feliz. Premieres Sep 20

 

Netflix:
How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies

Get the tissues out because this film will turn you into a sobbing mess. How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies is a poignant reminder to cherish those around us while we still have time, capturing both the beauty and complexities inherent in familial relationships. This film is directed by Pat Boonnitipat and stars singer-actor Putthipong Assaratanakul and 78-year-old Usha Seamkhum in her first role ever. The plot unfolds as college dropout M (Assaratanakul) moves in with his 79-year-old grandmother Mengju (Seamkhum) with last-stage colon cancer, hoping to earn her affection and inheritance. Gyeongseong Creature: Season 2

Park Seo-joon and Han So-hee return in the second season of Gyeongseong Creature: Season 2. In the show’s first season, the events took place in Gyeongseong (now Seoul) during the colonial rule of Japan in Korea. As two brave young adults searched for missing people, they discovered terrifying secrets and a vicious monster at Ongseong Hospital. The second season takes place in present-day Seoul, where nefarious biological experiments seem to suggest that history might repeat itself. The show also stars Lee Moo- saeng, and Bae Hyeon-seong. This action-comedy stars Black Knight actor Kim Woo-bin as a talented and righteous martial artist who can’t walk past a person in need. He teams up with a probation officer to fight and prevent crime as a martial arts officer. The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare

Guy Ritchie’s action-comedy is based on recently declassified British War Department files and inspired by true stories about the first special forces organisation established by Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials, including author Ian Fleming, during WWII. The top-secret combat unit, composed of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately, their audacious actions changed the course of the war, paving the way for the British SAS and modern black ops operations. The cast includes Henry Cavill, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Eiza Gonzalez, and Henry Golding. Premieres Sep 19
