Scene & Heard: Tuesdays by the River, Innocents and Lightseeker

River Dancing
Singapore River’s just rolled out a weekly Tuesdays by the River campaign to get folks out and about. There’ll be 1-for-1 deals for Visa cardholders at participating bars and restaurants, mass outdoor yoga with Lululemon and even pub “crawls” on a river taxi. The events will take place every Tuesday from Sep 17 so there’ll be lots to look forward to by the waters.

Presumed Innocent
Hot off the heels from Anthony Chen’s successful run at the cinema circuit with his award-winning Ilo Ilo, another promising film will attempt to repeat that success. Novice director Wong Chen-Hsi will debut his full-length feature Innocents on Sep 26 at The Arts House. Shot during the monsoon season, the 88-minute film centers on two lost souls who dream of escaping the dreariness of daily life venues. “The film was filmed in very unique conditions, including several heritage and conservation locations including the old KTM railway tracks and original school compounds in Queenstown that have been torn down since the shoot,” says Wong. Having screened in major international festivals, the film is finally making its way back to Singapore. Let there be Light
A new musical by Dick Lee will premiere at Resorts World Sentosa on Nov 24. Along with veteran producer and director Andrea Teo, Lee’s multi-million dollar Lightseeker centers on a mysterious character called Nova, who has the power to create a light source that will save mankind. The play will feature a yet-to-be-named international cast, including thespians from London’s West End.  “I set out to create something that combines the pace, scale and story-telling of movies with the immersiveness of live performances,” says Teo. “It has a unique soundtrack with Dick’s amazing melodies and lyrics performed by an international cast. We’ve hopefully made something really special, relevant and inspiring to modern audiences.” It remains to be seen if the production will be as big a hit as Lee’s previous productions like Beauty World, but at the very least it should be entertaining.
