It felt like an intimate date with Surrealism when we went for Poetic Interventions, an art performance around the Singapore Biennale sculptures. The four performers (two narrators, a dancer and a guitarist) were the guides to an equally small audience of four.
We started from the steps of the National Museum and with the ringing of a bell and the sound of a whistle, we set off to see the first sculpture and listen to a public recitation of poetry.
While we listened to the narrators and music was piped through a speaker, we found the sculptures were an apt setting for the poetry performance. A dancer in the background added to the surrealism of the environment, giving us something to watch as the words and music flowed over us.
It was a delight to see an alternative interpretation of the sculptures at Singapore Biennale, so we were a little reluctant to leave when the 30-minute performance ended. We wished the surrealism could have lasted a little longer.
